Unparalleled Job Safety Analysis
Working at electrical sites demands respect for both power and procedure. This guide empowers us to navigate potential hazards and complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Permit to Work: Every venture within Kenya’s domain requires a valid permit. This ensures clear communication and adherence to crucial regulations. No work begins without one, and a safety officer must always have it signed and on-site.
- Mobilizing Safely: Watch out for potential human-vehicle conflicts by using clear signage. Prevent unauthorized access with ID badges. First-time workers require safety inductions covering general site rules and mandatory PPE use.
- Manual Muscle: We train and supervise personnel on proper techniques for handling heavy materials. Utilize lifting tools like hoists for truly heavy objects. Don’t forget protective gloves!
- Fire, Sparks, and Burns: OHM’S TECH keeps fire extinguishers handy. Insulate cables properly, and equip workers with gloves, goggles, hats, boots, and overalls during welding, grinding, and oxy-acetylene cutting. While mindful of gas leaks, hot surfaces, and molten metal.
- Elevated Work: Falls are a major risk. The use of scaffolds harnesses safety when working at height.
- Line Testing: Only authorized personnel access barricaded work areas. Confirm lines are “dead” with live line testers and coordinate with Electrical Engineers. Always maintain clear communication.
- Painting and Backfilling: We ensure adherence to paint safety data sheets and use fall arrest systems if working at heights. Brief backfilling crews and maintain safe working distances. Utilization of gloves, and dust masks during housekeeping is employed.
Tools and Equipment
- Inspect and Maintain: Defective tools and equipment endanger everyone. Supervisors inspect everything before use, ensuring statutory inspections are current. Daily checks with completed checklists are mandatory. Remove and repair or replace any faulty equipment.
- Underground Awareness: Ground investigations clarify potential hazards for excavations, preventing damage to buried infrastructure, especially electrical cables.
